Bye Bye SYF, Hello Kronos!

Syf is finally over...

What can i say of my own school performance in syf?

Ok.. seriously, after hearing the recording of our golden performance.. i think the gold that we got is justified... ok.. i am orginally a little disappointed that we didnt get honours... but i guess we should consider why we didnt get honours and not saying that other schools dont deserve the honours...

Thoughts after listening to the recording:
1) we generally sound like music that is played on a hi fi set with super woofer bass capabilities. -- yeah, the lower strings are too loud or either that the violins are weak... but what to do... we have 7 violas, 7 cellos, 3 double bass versus 9 1st violins and 10 2nd violins...

2) Rutter--> we almost collapse at the start of the rutter... section I was another shaky part that we nearly collapsed

3) we generally played well besides the 2 flaws which probably degrade us to a Gold award only...

I have listened to other schools recording from Dunman High, Nanyang, Rj (Schools that got honours)... tj, dunman sec ( bronze )

ok.. the only thing that i can differentiate us and those schools that got honours is the balance of the entire ensemble...

Oh well, everything is over.. there is nothing we can do.. what we can do now.. is to learn from our mistakes and move on instead of saying that other schools dont deserve the honours!

I am proud of DHSSE, where i was from.. i am proud of their achievement this year... they have shown others that we (DHSSE) can perform at the highest level and not some ensemble who won the Gold medal 2 years ago through luck... (ah.. the person's sec sch who made this comment to me just got gold without honours this year.. so i wonder which sch dont deserve the gold 2 years ago.. haha) .. oh well... music is subjective.. ppl might disagree with this blog.. so isnt it best to reflect on our own performance instead of saying that other sch dont deserve the honours award?

Feeling lousy and demoralised

Just feeling a little lousy and demoralised today... just received or just seen the Vienna tour orchestra results:

Sorry to those who have been hoping that i can go Vienna.. Thanks for your goodwill and well wishes.. but I am not selected for this trip.. sorry ppl... no Austrian chocolates, Mozart's souvenirs, no visiting of many great composers birthplace.. no chance to play in vienna's concert hall...

I realise how does one feel when you are the only one in your section not being selected for a competition or tour.

This is how it goes:
15 Violist in SNYO:

2 ppl dont want to go (on their own accord)
13 ppl competiting to go vienna,
9 ppl confirmed going (without having to audition)
4 ppl have to go for audition

Results of audtion, out of the 4 ppl:
1 confirmed going, 2 ppl not confirmed going, unless the management manage to raise funds for these ppl to go (these ppl names are in the tour list), 1 ppl dont even have a chance to dream about going.. (meaning, name not even in the list)

Unfortunately, i am the one who dont even have the chance to dream about going.. If you are in my shoes, how would u feel? maybe it's better for me to reject the audition in the first place... maybe i should not have practised hard for the audition... cause it's much more disappointing when u find yourself in a situation where all your efforts do not pay off.

Maybe i am not good enough... maybe i am a bad violist... maybe music is not for me???

Seriously, i have been struggling to do well in music.. of course... we cannot be content with a little achievement we have in music... coz there is always someone who is better than you are... yes, i do love music.. and would want to pursue a career in this field... but seriously, the path is rocky and tough...

sometimes i do admire those ppl who are born in a musical family... in fact, i notice that most famous musicians have a musical family background... and that those ppl who are the first generation of musician in the family usually struggle... yes.. my parents know nuts about music.. oh well.. maybe my father, who only knows how to strum a guitar... rather amateur guitarist...

question is: is the struggle worthwhile?

Feeling very disappointed (maybe i shouldnt) and demoralised now...

Busy full week indeed.. Happy April's Fool DAy

This week is indeed a tiring week for me.. i have attended 2 concerts this week, below are summaries of my busy week:

MOnday: probably my only free day after school...

Tues: Tour audition.. End at about 9. Tour audition was fine...

Wed: went to Band concert.. It rocks... it is probably the 1st band concert i have watched in 4 years.. ah oh well.. i will never attend any of my sec sch band concert, not under the baton of their current conductor and under their sucky teacher i/c (ok.. enough of my sec sch band, i will be probably get killed by the teacher i/c if she sees this.. but oh well... they cant send me to kiw... lolz), but then come to think of this, if not for their comments on me being JACK-of ALL trades but master of none... i will probably not inspired to work hard on my violin, viola and piano and probably not in syo too... i will continue to prove them wrong...

Anyway, i did enjoy the band concert.. it was great.. the repertoire were interesting.. i like the Music for Prague (the percussion part at the start of the piece) and Leonard Bestein's Salva.
It did change my perception on band music for the better...

Thurs: SYO rehearsal... worked on academic festival overture by Brahms and Strauss, Johann (Jr)'s Gypsy Overture... cool man...

Fri: Went for the Chamber Recital... our sch's piano trio performed well... went out with ben for supper after that...

P.S: Happy Birthday Ngan!!!
p.s.s: Happy April Fool's Day

Sat: SYO rehearsal..

P.S: Happy birthday Annong...!!

Yup... that's it for this week... but i enjoyed myself, although tired this week.. yup... gonna recuperate... Gotta get Gold with honours for our syf!!!
